song & sword school for preachers
Song and Sword School for Preachers is an informal, practical education program for
those who want to learn about and to be trained in the basics of preaching the word of
God.
What it is not: Song and Sword school for preachers is not an accredited academic
institution but will seek to maintain a high standard for instruction and learning with its
curriculum and faculty.
Why Song and Sword school for preachers is intent on raising up the next generation
of preachers and therefore gives preference to high school students and young adults
who sense a call to or are interested in preaching. The school will also welcome current
preachers who want to develop, learn, and grow to greater effectiveness in preaching.
Two-year course of study: Song and Sword school for preachers will offer six
trimesters beginning in 2026. Each trimester will begin with an intensive all-day seminar
that will give instruction in three essential preaching tools. These intensive Saturday
sessions will include a syllabus to follow that will include independent studies, assigned
reading, listening assignments (podcasts and online sermons), sermon writing, and
when appropriate, preaching placement.
When: Song and Sword school for preachers begins with an intensive all-day seminar
on Saturday, February 28 from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm in the fellowship hall at Song and
Sword church, 401 East Jefferson Street, Bloomington, IL. The first seminar will be led
by Pastor Mike Baker and will include the following courses: Biblical survey of
preaching. Theology of preaching (I Thessalonians 2:1-8), and Sermon writing 101.
